👀 Well, that wasn’t the career plan I expected

Let’s Talk: Studio Talent Collective Blog

So... apparently my son wants to be a Waitress 🍕

And not the theatrical kind!

This week I wanted to give you a little life update, as well as what's been happening inside of the talent agency

Recently we had a little “visit Dad at work” day.

My husband works in corporate, so we took the kids into the city to see his office, check out the gorgeous Sydney Harbour view and let them see where Dad disappears to 3 days a week.

As my hubby was proudly showing them around the office, he asked my nine-year-old son, “Can you see yourself working somewhere like this one day?”

“No.”

“What do you see yourself doing then?”

“I want to be a waitress.”

Naturally, we had to ask why.

“Because I don’t know how to make the pizza.”

And there it was. Apparently my son’s career plan is to work in a pizza shop so he can work alongside his favourite food.

It actually made me think about how much we try to influence and inspire our kids (and our students) to dream big and imagine all the possibilities ahead of them.

But ultimately, they get to choose.

Our job is to give them experiences, exposure and opportunities, and let them find their own path.

Which brings me to what’s been happening inside the talent agency. Welcome to my September Wrap Up!

September inside the agency 🎬

September was a really active month behind the scenes of Studio Talent Collective

We had:

  • 130 auditions for our studio partners
  • Multiple callback auditions and a little industry fact: commercial callbacks are currently paid at $93
  • Young artists progressing through to live auditions for Opera Australia’s upcoming season
  • Ruby M from Laneway Dance on set for her Kmart campaign
  • Hamish Coates from Upstage Youth Theatre wrapping up a one-year theatre contract with Brainstorm Productions.

We didn't have any new bookings land in September, but that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty happening. We did have talent being shortlisted for roles which was good.

And this is something I really want studio owners and families to understand:

Not booking the job doesn't mean the audition was a waste.

Every audition is another opportunity to build confidence, practise self-taping, learn how the industry works and get comfortable putting yourself out there.

You're building those audition muscles every time you step into the arena.

A huge congratulations to Hamish as he wraps up his 2026 theatre contract. We're incredibly proud of him and excited to see what's next.

Welcome to the family 💜

We also welcomed two new studios into Studio Talent Collective last month:

Marnie from The Dance Room in Victoria

and

Chelsie from Studio 3 Narrandera, regional NSW.

And I love that one is a city-based studio in Melbourne and the other is in a regional NSW town.

Different communities, different studios, different students - but the same access to industry opportunity.

Because talent isn't exclusive to the big cities.

And the photo shoots are growing!

We had two studio photo shoots in September.

But October is a very different story.

We currently have SEVEN photo shoots booked for October! Our biggest photo shoot month in the history of the agency.

I looked back at our numbers from last year and realised I did around seven photo shoots across the entire year.

Now we're doing seven in one month.

That growth is pretty incredible to see.

More importantly, it means more students getting professional headshots, more talent getting industry-ready and more opportunities being created within our studio partner network.

And yes, school holidays have also been happening around here, which definitely adds a little spice to working from home with two kids. But we're getting it done!

Thinking about 2027?

Last month we also ran our Studio Talent Collective partnership campaign to bring more studio communities into our family.

So... if you've been thinking about bringing a Talent Agency into your studio, now is a really good time to start planning for 2027.

You don't have to build an agency from scratch.

Studio Talent Collective is the plug-in Talent Agency solution for performing arts studios, giving you the systems, industry connections and support to create a genuine pathway from your studio into the professional industry.

If you've been thinking, “I'd love to offer this to my students, but I have no idea where to start,” that's exactly where we come in.
