🆘 When growth shows the cracks

Let’s Talk: Studio Talent Collective Blog
When growth shows the cracks and you need to regroup.

I'm sharing the whirlwind that was May, because sure, it was busy but it also revealed something important. CRACKS.
First Stop...
Was Hobart Tasmania as I supported a talent agency client, managing photoshoots and running audition technique workshops for their students.
This experience meant a few days out of the Sydney office, but was insightful into the impact performance opportunities make in towns that are not necessarily "casting hubs".
Speaking to the talent and working with them directly - seeing the hunger to learn! - Meeting parents wanting the world for their kids (which as a mum I can relate) was memorable and important work.
Second Stop...
Flying to Melbourne for the Victorian Dance Festival (VDF).
Now granted, this was part of my marketing strategy of "being in the room" this year, because in-person connection has a high value again. You just can't beat it!
Having real conversations with Studio Owners who are craving new and innovative ways to engage their students and community in a meaningful way was amazing.
Aside from VDF - I also had the opportunity to have dinner with one of my clients (thanks David for the Tapas)... Annnd I could not miss seeing Waitress the musical, in support of our 5 year old artist Ruby, playing Lulu in the hit show. (see image above for post show photo).
So with all of this time out of the office to connect with clients (though important)... what happens to the daily grind? The admin? The other work?
Well truthfully {{ first_name }}... cracks started to form.
Keeping up with growth means more people power.
I had team in place while I was away but on reflection, things did not move as fast or smoothly as they needed to. Customer love and care means a lot to me! I pride myself on it. But... things just were not operating at my standard.
It got me thinking... is it time for a new hire to meet the demand? Short answer is YES.
Now I must admit I get a little weary when it comes to hiring staff and its because I felt worn out by team in my last business. I honestly thought I may never have a team again!
But how can a business grow without people?
And no, AI is not the solution I am looking for as I already use that in my biz. I need humans. Frequently working (better than I can) on what we need to move the needle and support our customers.
Perhaps the cracks were a blessing. A sign to level up and recognise I need people to evolve.
What got you here, wont get me there {{ first_name }}!
So cheers to many warm bubble baths this winter (yes that is me enjoying a bath in the top right image of this email). I have been having 1-2 a day with a good book or a podcast and loving it.
Usually early hours of the morning (before the kids wake), and the hour after dinner and before my kids bed time. Squeezing it in where I can. Highly recommend.
